A marriage retreat with us at Bethesda House is a unique experience. After being married and in Christian leadership for over 30 years, we understand the unique challenges of marriage and ministry. We are safe, non-judgmental and share out of our own brokenness and with the things that have made a difference in our lives, marriage and ministry. We are not licensed counselors, but coaches, teachers, and mentors. We generally work with one couple at a time, coming alongside of them to enrich their marriage through biblically based personal coaching and equipping in practical relationship skills. It is custom-designed to you as an individual couple based on your strengths and growth areas; present needs and hopes. Through communication ahead of time and questionnaires we ask you to fill out, we pray, discern and craft a special retreat for you. We start with a basic structure and schedule; then are very open to adjusting as God leads or as your needs and desires change while here.
Who would benefit from a retreat – Couples come to us who have a strong relationship and want to further make deposits to keep growing and protect their marriage. Others have been, or are still in, some personal, family or ministry crisis or transition where they need coaching to process, heal and make steps to move forward. Some couples are in a difficult place with lots of growth areas and it is a privilege to come alongside of them as long as there is a level of good will and both have some desire to work on their relationship.
Length - We suggest that the best time frame is 4 nights / 5 days because this gives you time for travel, to relax and enjoy, rest, be alone with God and one another, and get in some significant time of being coached and building into your marriage relationship. We generally suggest Tuesday-Saturday or Wednesday-Sunday. Having said that, we can work within whatever time frame you have, and under special circumstances some stays can be a little longer.
Space - When you are here for a marriage retreat, you have your own private space with a separate entrance, 2 bed and baths, living area, porch and kitchenette. Check our website for more information and pictures of Bethesda House and amenities. If needed, please inquire about our handicap accessibility.
Meals - We always begin sharing a meal together and some breakfast foods are provided. We may end up sharing another meal, however most meals are not included and are on your own.
Cost - Because we are a non-profit religious organization, we do not "charge" for our retreats, per se. We depend 100% on the generosity of our guests and donor friends of this ministry. In addition to quality coaching, resources and a customized retreat, our goal is to provide you with comfortable, peaceful lodging in a beautiful setting. Our suggested donation for a couple is $150 / night. We ask you to prayerfully consider your contribution and that anything above this amount also helps to further this ministry. If this prohibits your visit to Bethesda, please discuss it with us further.
Here is the process - After our initial connection, we can work to set dates and a brief phone call with the 4 of us where we will share a little bit of our story and answer any of your questions. After that, we will send out our questionnaires and ask you to return them by a couple weeks before your retreat. As we get closer to the time, we will finalize details together. Feel free to email or call at any point with concerns or questions.
Please note that our schedule fills up very quickly so don't hesitate to check in about possible dates.
We come alongside Christian leaders to enrich their marriages and ministries for the sake of God's Kingdom.
